Lawn Dude SoCal Billboards Return

LOS ANGELES – It’s the return of the Lawn Dude along Southern California highways, thanks to Clear Channel Outdoor (CCO).

The Southern California Water Committee (SCWC) and CCO announced the second phase yesterday of the @Lawn_Dude advertising campaign aimed at encouraging Californians toremove turf and invest in water-wise landscaping.

“It’s time to take it all off California! I know you love me but I drink too much during our drought so go ahead, give me a Brazilian,” said @Lawn_Dude, SCWC’s conservation spokesperson, in a neatly trimmed statement. “Keeping me thirsty isn’t enough. Lamar is Now a REIT

BATON ROUGE, La. – It’s official: Lamar Advertising Co. is now a bona-fide real estate investment trust (REIT).

LamarCompany shareholders approved the change from a standard public-stock company at a Nov. 17 meeting at Lamar headquarters here. As part of the plan, the company merged into a wholly owned subsidiary, Lamar Advertisng REIT Co., at 11:59 Eastern Standard Time on Nov. 19, and then took its old name back as Lamar Advertising Co.

Stockholders of pre-REIT Lamar’s Class A common stock, Class B common stock and Series AA preferred stock automatically became stockholders of Lamar Advertising REIT Company’s Class A common stock, Class B common stock and Series AA preferred stock, respectively...

Philport Retiring as TAB Chief at Year’s End

NEW YORK – Joe Philport, chief of the OOH-measurement Traffic Audit Bureau (TAB) for the past 12 years, will retire at the end of 2014.

Joe PhilportThe traffic ratings group also announced today that it will review the changing needs of the OOH industry in a variety of areas, including metrics and TAB leadership.

Nancy Fletcher, president/CEO of the Outdoor Advertising Association of America, will also be interim TAB CEO after Philport’s retirement.

Philport, who joined TAB as CEO in 2002, led TAB as it developed its Out of Home Ratings system, which offers accountability and more accurate measurement of audiences actually viewing OOH advertising.

Lamar Up 4.3% in 3Q ’14; REIT Vote Now Set

BATON ROUGE, La. – Lamar Advertising Company reported a 4.3% revenue gain in this year’s third quarter, as the OOH firm heads to a stockholder’s meeting next Monday to confirm its conversion into a real estate investment trust (REIT).

LamarLamar reported net revenues of $335 million for third quarter 2014, up from $321.1 million for 3Q 2013. Operating income for this year’s third quarter was $86 million — compared to $67.2 million for the same period last year – and 3Q 2014’s net income of $35 doubles the $17.1 million at the same time last year.
